America's first offshore cast-iron caisson lighthouse was established in 1871 in Plymouth Bay, Massachusetts and originally housed a Fourth Order Fresnel lens. Due to its shape, Duxbury Pier was nicknamed "The Coffee Pot", and later the "Bug Light."
