Little Sable, MI

Construction of this lighthouse was very tedious due to the deserted area of Little Sable Point Michigan where this light is located. It was lighted for the first time in 1874. The tower was originally a natural brick but was difficult to see during daytime. It was painted white in 1900 and had to be done annually by the keepers stationed here. In 1955, the Coast Guard decided to demolish all but the tower and in 1977, the tower was sandblasted and the natural brick displayed once again. This replica has recreated the beacon as it once stood with the white tower and keepers quarters intact.
