Tucker's Island - NJ

Established in 1849 to accommodate shipping traffic, this lighthouse is named for the island it sits on. Similar in design to Hereford Inlet, it was a charming Victorian two-story sentinel with an integrated tower that held a fourth order lens. Keepers had to abandon the lighthouse in 1927 due to gigantic waves from a Northeaster which caused the whole building to topple in the New Jersey sea.
