A Perfect Lady

A pictorial history of the U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle.

A Perfect Lady celebrates Eagle. Using archival photographs from various collections, the author’s captions present distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of America’s Tall Ship.

Since she was launched in 1936, the U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle has had a distinguished career. Built in Germany as a training ship for the German Navy she was commissioned Horst Wessel. Following World War 2 she was awarded to the United States as a war prize, renamed Eagle, and commissioned in the U.S. Coast Guard. Since 1946 Eagle has been used to train future Coast Guard officers, and has served as the nation’s goodwill ambassador all over the country and the world.

Soft cover 160 pages by Tido Holtkamp.
