Destroyed in 1775 by the British when they escaped Boston, Boston Lighthouse remained in ruins until 1883. It was rebuilt 75 feet high with a 75 foot base. The tower was raised an additional 15 feet in 1859. Due to its historical significance, the Coast Guard has determined that this Massachusetts light will always be manned, the only one left in the US!
