Holland Harbor - MI

Located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan and known affectionately as “Big Red”, Holland Harbor lighthouse was established in 1872. It’s constructed of solid brick with slate roof and twin gables and painted dark red-hence the name. A wooden tower was added to the building in 1936 magnified by a sixth order lens visible for 14 nautical miles. The beacon was deactivated in 1970, reactivated in 1979 and still active today.
