The International Chimney Co. of Buffalo, New York, the firm made famous by its moves of Southeast Light in Rhode Island, Nauset and Cape Cod Lights in Massachusetts, and Cape Hatteras Light in North Carolina, is restoring the endangered Anclote Key Lighthouse in Florida.

Restoring the Anclote Key Light is no easy project. However, International Chimney is known for doing what most others might think as impossible as was the case when they moved America’s tallest lighthouse a couple of years ago.

The Anclote Key Lighthouse is in poor shape with major corrosion and has suffered structural damage.

The lighthouse is about 2 miles off the coast and all personnel, equipment, tools, utilities and materials need to be brought over by boat, off loaded and then transported over a boardwalk for about 1/3 of mile. Specialty equipment to help with these logistics has been constructed and or purchased for the project. “For example,” says Joe Jakubik of International Chimney, “We constructed a wooden road that circles the lighthouse site so that our transportation equipment doesn’t damage the archeologically sensitive historical site.”
