A United States Coast Guard crew recently completed restoration work on Maine’s Prospect Harbor Point Lighthouse. The work was done under the direction of Chief Preston Logan, Officer in Charge, Aids to Navigation Team, Southwest Harbor, Maine.

The 1891 lighthouse was re-shingled and repainted and last fall the interior was painted.

The light-station is on a United States Navy satellite operations station and is unfortunately off limits to the general public.

The keeper’s house is used by the U.S. Navy as recreation housing for Naval personnel. Many guests who have spent the night here have experienced ghostly experiences. A statue of a sea captain seems to change positions by itself, and some guests claim to have seen or heard a ghost at night.

The United States Coast Guard has now turned the tower over to the American Lighthouse Foundation, which will care for and maintain the historic tower into the future.
