Notes:From 1893 to 1915, a light in the steeple of St. Philip's Episcopal Church served as a rear range light in conjunction with a front range light at Fort Sumter. The present church building was constructed 1835-38 (the steeple was added in the late 1840s). This is only one of two churches in the U.S. known to have served as lighthouses; the other is the First Baptist Church in Beverly, MA (Hospital Point Rear Range).
