Split Rock - MN

Iron ore deposits located in Two Harbors made compass readings inaccurate in the area making a light in the vicinity necessary. To build this structure, materials and equipment had to be hoisted up the 124 foot stone cliff from the water below. Split Rock light was first lit in 1910 and manned by a keeper and two assistants who lived in keeper’s houses built the same time as the tower. The light was decommissioned in 1969 and has been renovated for guided tours offered during the summer. BASE 2.75"W X 1.75"D 3"H
