Tybee - GA

One of America’s earliest lighthouses and lit by whale oil candles in 1773. In 1861 a Confederate raiding party set fire to the tower and removed the lens. Repairs and renovations raised the tower height to 144 feet. Tybee Island light was relit in 1867. Storms and even an earthquake all but ruined the tower over the years but support from private citizens has ensured the survival of this historic sentinel. BASE 2.5"W X 1.5"D 3.5"H
