Alcatraz CA

Alcatraz Island was the first lighthouse on the Pacific coast and was illuminated in 1854 by a 3rd order lens guiding ships into San Francisco Bay, California. The 1906 earthquake caused serious damage and the light was torn down and replaced with an 84 ft octagonal tower. The island served as a maximum security prison due in fact to its desolate location amidst strong currents.
