Lighthouse Keeper’s Daughter The Remarkable True Story of American Heroine Ida Lewis

Newport native Ida Lewis was one tough cookie! When her father, Capt. Hosea Lewis, the first keeper of Lime Rock Lighthouse, suffered a stroke in 1857, Ida—just 15 years old—and her mother took over tending the light until 1872, when her father died. Ida was officially appointed to the keeper’s job in 1879, and remained there till her death. During her 40 years on the tiny island—now named Ida Lewis Rock--she is credited with many daring rescues, and with saving 18 or more lives. This is award-winning author Lenore Skomal’s 14th book. A great read! Paperback, 160 pages. 5 1/2" x 8 1/2".
