Sanibel Island FL

First lit by a third order lens in 1884, the 102 foot skeleton tower lighthouse is one of the most unique on the Florida coast. Detached frame keeper’s cottages with wide verandas and pyramidal roofs have survived numerous storms and hurricanes. Residents and stranded fishermen often sought refuge at Sanibel Island lighthouse during storms. The property is maintained by the Town of Sanibel and the light is electrified.
