Thomas Point MD

After two poorly built lighthouses were built at Thomas Point, the Lighthouse Board decided to build the lighthouse offshore and immediately over the shoals. A two story hexagonal cottage was built supported by a framework of seven screwpiles twisted into the sandy bottom. Even though screwpile lights were vulnerable to ice floes, Thomas Point, Maryland remains as the last remaining active screwpile lighthouse on the Bay.
