Battery Point, CA

Originally known as Crescent City Lighthouse, this lighthouse was lit in December 1856. Throughout its lifetime, Battery Point has survived intense weather including a waterspout and a battering by tidal waves caused by an Alaskan earthquake. The Sentinel was automated in 1953 and discontinued in 1965, replaced by a flashing beacon at the end of the breakwater. It was re-lighted and opened as a museum in 1982.
