Built in 1852, the tower was raised by 24 ft and the brickwork sheathed in cast iron plates to protect from the severe storms on the Gulf coast. During the Civil War the Confederates dismantled the tower and reforged the iron into military armaments. The tower was reconstructed with similar cast iron casements and endured many storms through the decades. Today, the tower is badly deteriorating. BASE 2.75"W X 1.5"D 3"H
