Bronzed 30-Minute Hourglass
By the 15th and 16th centuries, hourglasses were in general use on board sailing ships. The 30-minute sandtimer was typically used to aid the watchkeeper in chiming "Ship's bells", help with the log and to find the speed of the ship. Larger, antique hourglasses of sixty minutes or more were mostly used in battle or to time religious sermons. This reproduction is 6" tall, enclosed in a bronzed metal stand on a 4 1/2" diam. wood base. Set on your desktop to evoke the timeless romance of the sea.
