Cape Neddick(Nubble), ME
Cape Neddick Lighthouse is also known as the Nubble Lighthouse due to its situation on a “nubble” or outcropping. Construction of the Maine light began in 1874 but not completed until 1879. The tower is 41 feet tall and is 88 feet above the ocean. The fourth order lens Showed a fixed red light and flashed at 6 second intervals. A walkway was built to connect the keeper’s dwelling to the tower in 1911 so the keeper could go about his duties regardless of the New England weather. The lighthouse was automated in 1987 and the town of York lights up the lighthouse for the Christmas season.
