Clark's Point - MA
Clark’s Point Lighthouse in New Bedford, MA needed to ensure the safety of the whaling ships that entered the harbor from Buzzard’s Bay and in 1804 the government commissioned the building of the 42 foot stone tower. In the 1860’s a fortress rose beside the lighthouse which blocked the beacon’s view. The lantern room was re-located to the top of Fort Taber in 1869. Clark’s Point became obsolete in 1898 and the fortress deteriorated. Clark’s point was restored by the City of New Bedford in 2000-2001.
