Erected in 1885 after numerous vessels went down in the mouth of the Coquille River, this lighthouse rises 40 feet and housed a fourth order Fresnel light. Attached to this Oregon tower was a unique, octagonal fog signal building. A keeper’s cottage, now destroyed, was constructed and connected to the tower by a long, wooden walkway. The government abandoned the station in 1939 and it fell to the ravages of nature and vandalism. It was restored in 1979. The locals refer to this light as “Bandon Light”.
