Diamond Head, HI

Originally established as a lookout and guide for mariners entering the port of Honolulu, a lighthouse was constructed in the 1890’s. The original tower was a 40-foot iron framework and a third order lens installed. Serious cracks were found in the structure during an inspection in 1916 and a new 50-foot concrete tower was built on the same Oah, Hawaii location. The original Fresnel lens was used in the re-built tower and still operates today as an active aid to navigation.
