Galveston Jetty, TX
First lit in 1918, the lighthouse was proposed in the aftermath of the storm of 1900 on the new jetty built to protect Galveston Harbor. The tower was built of concrete and steel, standing 84 feet tall and had a third order lens in it. The tower incorporated a three story Keeper’s quarters. The Texas lighthouse was deactivated in 1972 and the tower fell into disrepair. The toppled tower remains at the end of the jetty to this day broken and open to continued damage from the elements.
