Graves, MA

Located on the outer limits of Boston Harbor sitting on a rocky ledge, this austere granite tower is 113 feet tall and was built in 1903. In its early days the lighthouse was the most powerful beacon in Massachusetts history-3.2 million candlepower! Even with this light in service, there were many shipwrecks in the vicinity of the dangerous ledge. The Graves was automated in 1976 and is operated by the Coast Guard. It is not open to the public and can be best viewed by boat.
