Grosse Point IL

Completed in 1873 and built in cream-colored Milwaukee brick, Grosse Point Lighthouse rises 113 feet. To enhance effectiveness during daylight, the lantern and window trim were painted dark red. An Italianate keeper’s dwelling completed the site. A protective layer of concrete was added to the brick walls around 1914 due to the harsh lake climate. The light was automated in 1933 and transferred to the City of Evanston, Illinois.
