Hendricks Head ME
Lit in 1829, the first Hendricks Head Lighthouse was a granite dwelling with a cylindrical tower on its roof. It guided ships entering the mouth of the Sheepcote River. After this Maine light was destroyed by fire in 1875, a second was built nearby and the fifth order lens was put in the new tower. Hendricks Head was discontinued in 1933 and the property sold to private owners for $5,000. The light was reactivated in 1951 due to increased boating traffic in the area. The light today serves as an active aid to navigation and flashes a fixed white light.
