Images of America - Lighthouses of the Bay Area
Written by Betty Veronico. The discovery of gold in 1848 prompted many prospectors and adventurers west by land and by sea. The rugged coast of California and San Francisco Bay in particular, claimed many lives. Located on Alcatraz Island, San Francisco Bay’s first light was followed by others at Fort Point, Point Bonita and the Farallon Islands. An additional 15 lights also served the bay as well as two lightships stationed outside the Golden Gate. This book tells the story of these light stations from 1852 to the present, along with an overview of lighthouse technology. Soft cover 126 pages.
