Key West - FL

In 1825 a wooden sentinel was established at Whitehead Point to warn ships of the deadly reefs. In 1846 a hurricane destroyed the lighthouse and a 66 foot tall brick tower was raised in its place. A third order lens was in the lantern room. Somehow, this beacon remained lit throughout the Civil War. An additional 20 feet were added to the tower in 1894. The tower and the keeper’s house have been restored recently and it remains to be a popular tourist attraction. BASE 2.5"W X 2"D 3"H
