Nauset Beach, MA

Nauset Beach Lighthouse rests atop a 95-foot cliff, established in 1836, one of three identical towers known as the Three Sisters of Nauset. By 1911, the cliff had eroded within eight feet of the northernmost structure so it was decided to make Nauset a single sentinel and moved the center tower back from the cliff. This single light was given a white light that flashed three times in ten seconds, a tribute to the Three Sisters. Erosion continued to be a problem and the Massachusetts light was moved again in 1996 across the street to a new location,336 feet from its former site.
