Pemaquid ME

Originally established in 1827 to guard the western entrance to Muscongus Bay, Pemaquid Lighthouse only stands 38 feet high. A fourth order lens replaced the antiquated lighting system in 1857 and the light was visible for 14 nautical miles. This light was one of the first stations to be automated in 1934 and has operated uninterrupted to the present day. The town of Bristol, Maine controls the keeper’s cottage and the Coast Guard maintains the tower and light.
