Nantucket Island's Sankaty Head Lighthouse dates back to 1850. By 1990, the brick and granite lighthouse was in danger of falling over the eroding bluff. In October 2007, the Massachusetts beacon was lifted by 16 hydraulic jacks, pushed on 16 rollers along a steel beam and moved inland to safe haven.
