Henry “Hank” Vavrina poses for this photo for family members. His foot is on the skiff Little Sable. Behind him is his wife’s flower garden where deer and rabbits would make a habit of eating the flowers. Barely noticeable in this photo is the emblem of the U.S. Lighthouse Service on his hat and not the Coast Guard emblem. Although he became Coast Guard when the Lighthouse Service was taken over in 1939, he refused to ever wear the Coast Guard emblem. This was either an inspection day or a Saturday when tourists would come.
