Photo Caption:

Ralph Stanley Andrews, Sr. was a keeper at the lighthouse in the 1940's. In the summer of 1946 he slipped getting from the motor boat to the dinghy and was temporarily paralyzed from the waist down. After 11 days he returned to the lighthouse duties on crutches. After his lighthouse duties, he commanded a search and rescue vessel out of Southwest Harbor, Maine. His most memorable experience was the rescue of Nelson Rockefeller, whose boat had been stranded in the fog.
