Photo Caption:

Frank Allen Davis was keeper at Plymouth Light for 17 years. He started his duty in the U.S. Lighthouse Service aboard the U.S. Lighthouse Service Tender Azalea on March 25, 1916. Davis was born in 1895 in the town of Lubec, Maine, and was direct a descendent of the Pilgrims, who came to America on the Mayflower. He later became third assistant keeper at the twin lights at Thacher Island, Massachusetts. When the keeper of Duxbury Pier Light in Massachusetts died, he was appointed keeper and served there for three years. Following Duxbury Pier Light, he transferred to Tarpaulin Cove Light, also in Massachusetts. However, there were no schools near the light, and when his eldest son approached school age he requested a transfer and was sent to Plymouth Light, where he served for 17 years. When the U.S. Lighthouse Service was dissolved in 1939 and merged into the Coast Guard, he joined the Coast Guard as a Chief Boatswains Mate and left his legacy of lighthouses behind. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1946 with a monthly retirement pay of $108.67.
