Cape Hatteras through the years is shown here from a painting by Virginia Souza. The tower on the lift was the first Cape Hatteras Light and second from the left was when the tower was renovated and raised in height. The remains of this tower are now under water. The two images to the right show how Cape Hatteras appearred when it was first built and how it looks today with its distinctive black and white stripes
