Bill and Winona Krenzer at Nubble Light in the ...

I know that you must receive hundreds of photos of my favorite lighthouse, "The Nubble Light".

It has special significance to me, being the first lighthouse I ever saw in New England.

My husband, Bill, and I raised a large family and through the years could never afford a vacation of more than a few miles from home.

Then in 1980, we finally headed for the area I'd always longed to visit - New England! Our only night in Maine that year was in Kittery, where a nice motel manager gave us a small hand-drawn map of the surrounding area and suggested we go out to the Nubble Light.

I'll never forget the excitement of first seeing the ocean with the waves crashing against the rocks and the seagulls flying overhead, with the staunch white and red lighthouse just begging to be photographed!

Since that time, we have made 16 more trips to the New England states, visiting many more lighthouses. Each trip has included a stop at Nubble. Improvements have been made, benches added, etc., but it remains the same, and I still feel an overwhelming excitement as we pass along the lovely old seaside homes which brings us to Nubble Road, and there it is awaiting us!

When we were naming our black Dachshund puppy a couple of years ago we decided on "Nubble" as he was a small bit of a dog (as a nubble is a small knot or lump, according to the dictionary) and the name would always remind us of one of our favorite places, Nubble Light.
