This scaffolding shows the ongoing restoration at New Jersey's Cape May Lighthouse. This phase of the restoration includes restoring the metal watch deck and watch gallery door, upgrading the security grille around the gallery. Other exterior restoration at the historic structure has included restoring the stonework of the lighthouse foundation, burying utility lines and installing an ornamental security fence to replace the current chain link fence.

Interior restoration has included cleaning and repointing the brick masonry throughout the tower, and restoration of the Watch Room including repainting the central lens pedestal to its original colors and the installation of a fire detection and security system.

The Cape May Lighthouse is open to the public, and the Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts, the non profit group that runs the lighthouse has spent the last 12 years working on the restoration of the light. If you would like to join their group, (membership is open to all) you may contact them at P.O. Box 340, Cape May, NJ 08204 or call 609-884-5404.
