This year's Christmas replica from Harbour Lights has now been released. The holiday replica features Michigan's White Shoal Lighthouse, one of Lake Michigan's most distinctive beacons.
Although the unique sentinel is reminiscent of a candy cane, the friendly appearance belies the dangerous shallows lying just below the surface of the water. Standing twenty miles west of the Straits of Mackinac, White Shoal Light warned mariners from disaster for 73 years. The White Shoal replica has been released in a numbered limited edition of 8000.
Another new release from Harbour Lights is a replica of Pigeon Point Light, CA. This one will be limited to 9500 hand numbered pieces.
Two more international lighthouses have joined the line - Australia's Macquarie (pronounced Mac-a-ree) and Ireland's Hook Head Lighthouse. We predict both with be fast sellers with Hook Head selling out first.
Many collectors have been disappointed when they find out they waited just a few days too long to add a replica to their collection. Our advice is to order early before they are sold out. Past experience has shown that some replicas have sold out within weeks of their release.
Harbour Lights has announced that the following replicas have now been officially retired: Cape Blanco, Oregon; Port Isabel, Texas; Currituck, North Carolina; Cape May, NJ; Spectacle Reef, MI; St. Joseph Pier, Michigan; Thirty Mile Point, Michigan; Cape Lookout, NC; La Jument, France; and Cape Henry, VA.
The molds on retired replicas are broken, and the pieces will never be produced again. However, Lighthouse Depot still has a supply of all these replicas. To order, call 1-800-758-1444.
Harbour Lights replica's are doing quite well in the secondary market with the value of retired, sold out pieces continuing to rise.
On other Harbour Lights news, their first collectors' reunion (convention) held in California was a total success, with over 400 people showing up.
