Another state joins the ranks offering lighthouse license plates.

Lighthouse Digest reader instrumental in getting lighthouse on Pennsylvania license plate. Proves that one person can make a difference.

It was about a year ago that Mary Ann Domowicz of Erie, PA read an article in Lighthouse Digest where we encouraged our readers to petition their state representatives and governors to initiate action to offer a lighthouse license plate in every state that has lighthouses.

She read the article with interest and decided to do something and started writing letters. However, she felt her interests weren't being taken seriously, so she approached her State Representative Linda Bebko-Jones from the lst District with her request. Representative Bebko-Jones turned her request over to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. One thing led to another and guess what, Pennsylvania will now join Ohio, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts in offering a lighthouse license plate.

Although the design for the new plate has yet to be determined, the new law requires that a lighthouse license plate be available to the public within 60 days. The new lighthouse license plate will cost an additional $35.00. Of this $15.00 from each plate will be deposited into a special lighthouse account in the Historical Preservation Fund of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The law reads that the money must be used to preserve, maintain and operate Pennsylvania's historic lighthouses.

Congratulations to the State of Pennsylvania for recognizing our countries lighthouses, hopefully other states will follow suit.

But most of all congratulations to Mary Ann Domowicz for her love of lighthouses and for proving once again that one person can make a difference.
