Tid-bits from the Tower

By Timothy Harrison

Thank You’s

Many thanks to Robert C. Williams II formerly of Kill Devil Hills, NC for sending us a North Carolina Cape Hatteras license plate. As a reminder to our readers, if you live in a state with a lighthouse license plate and when you’re finished with the plate, send it to us and we’ll make sure it gets displayed at Lighthouse Depot, The World’s Largest Lighthouse Gift Store in Wells, Maine.

And more thanks to Wayne Gilbert who donated 12 high quality Johnson & Johnson first aid medical kits to the American Lighthouse Foundation. The first aid kits will be kept at lighthouses that are under the care of the Foundation. Wayne Gilbert is the brother of Bob Gilbert who works for Lighthouse Depot.

Thanks also go out to Walt Gorr for donating a tee-shirt from the 32nd Annual Convention of the Chief Petty Officers Association, which was held in Mobile, AL. The shirt features a beautiful depiction of the Middle Bay Lighthouse in Mobile, AL. The shirt will eventually go on display in the Lighthouse Museum in Wells, Maine.

And many thanks to Middlesex Mutual Assurance Company for donating life jackets for the American Lighthouse Foundation boat which is used for the restoration work at Maine’s Little River Lighthouse. Now, all they need is the money to restore the station.

Passings

Armand E. Houde, 73, passed away in Pompano Beach, FL. He had served many years in the Coast Guard having been stationed on various lighthouses and lightships. At one time he was the head keeper at Maine’s Portland Head Light. He also served on the Presidential Security Patrol at Hyannis, MA for former President John F. Kennedy.

Congratulations . . .

Goes to Lavern Kinney of Mabank, Texas who won a lighthouse replica in the drawing held at the Family Motor Coach Convention held recently in Brunswick, Maine. Lighthouse Depot and Lighthouse Digest had a booth at the convention which was the largest motor convention in Maine’s history and maybe even nationally. There were over 7,000 motor homes from across the country. Yours truly presented a slide/talk on the last day of the show, which was well attended and rated by those attending as a great seminar. So, that means I can pat myself on the back.
