Could we still lose Crisp Point Lighthouse?

The Crisp Point Light Historical Society in Paradise, Michigan accomplished one of the most remarkable feats in lighthouse history when they saved this historic lighthouse literally days before it would have toppled into Lake Superior.

At one time Lighthouse Digest listed it as “the most endangered lighthouse in the United States.” But thanks to the efforts of hundreds of people from around the United States, many of them Lighthouse Digest subscribers, the lighthouse was saved - for now.

The Crisp Point Lighthouse Society recently received the prestigious Lake Superior Achievement Award for doing what most thought was impossible.

Yes, the lighthouse has been restored. Yes, the grounds look great. Yes, there is now a road to the lighthouse. Yes, riprap was installed to stop the erosion. No, it was not enough.

The erosion must be stopped and that will cost the historical society another $50,000 to complete the project to assure that the lighthouse will not be swept away.

Crisp Point’s Adopt Program

One way you can help save the Crisp Point Lighthouse is to adopt a tree, shrub or part of the boardwalk. The plan is as follows:

$30.00 Adopt a shrub and your name will be engraved on a plaque at the tower.

$60.00 Adopt a tree and your name will be engraved on a plaque at the tower

$90.00 Adopt a tree and a shrub and your name will be engraved on a plaque at the tower and you get one free year membership in the Crisp Point Light Historical Society.

$125.00 Sponsor 1/2 section in the boardwalk and your name will be engraved in the boardwalk and you receive one free year membership in the Crisp Point Light Historical Society.
