Flying Santa of the Lighthouses
Our best wishes to the volunteers of the Friends of the Flying Santa for another holiday season of welcome visits to lighthouses. The Flying Santa or "Santa of the Lighthouses" is a tradition that goes back to 1929, when it was started by Maine pilot Bill Wicapaw. New England historian Edward Rowe Snow continued it for over 40 years.
Today, George Morgan, (who really looks like Santa) and Dave Waldrip and others are keeping up this wonderful tradition. If you'd like to learn more visit the Friends of the Flying Santa website at www.flyingsanta.com.

Pledges needed for fog bell
The American Lighthouse Foundation has located an extremely rare brass fog bell of the United States Lighthouse Establishment, which was before the United States Lighthouse Service, so the bell most likely dates back to the early or mid 1800's. The owner of the bell wants $5000.00 for it. This bell needs to be saved from private ownership and should be on display in the museum. If you wish to pledge money for the purchase of this bell, you donation may be tax deductible. Pledges should be sent to Timh@Lhdigest.com or mail to American Lighthouse Foundation, Brass Bell Account, P.O. Box 889, Wells, Maine 04090.
Lighthouse Depot donates to Rockland Breakwater
When you purchase a replica of a Harbour Lights Rockland Breakwater replica you are helping to save the lighthouse. For every Harbour Lights Rockland Breakwater replica purchased from Lighthouse Depot, we will donate $10.00 to the Friends of Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, which is a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation. This along with the $5.00 donated by Harbour Lights for each replica sold gives $15.00 from each replica toward the restoration of the lighthouse, which will eventually be opened to the public as a living history museum.
