Lighthouse Transfer

Maine's Little River Lighthouse will become the first lighthouse in Maine, the first lighthouse in New England and one of the first lighthouses in the nation to be transferred from government ownership to a non-profit group under the National Lighthouse Preservation Act. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 27, at 1PM in the town circle in Cutler, Maine. There will be a number of federal and state dignitaries on hand for this historic event, which is open free to the public. There will be refreshments, entertainment and transfer souvenirs available directly before and after the event. The lighthouse will be transferred to the nonprofit American Lighthouse Foundation, which is an unpaid all-volunteer group that still needs to raise $250,000 to restore the light station. If you would like to make a much needed contribution it can be sent to The American Lighthouse Foundation, Little River Restoration, P.O. Box 889, Wells, ME 04090 or made on line at www.LighthouseFoundation.orgwww.LighthouseFoundation.org.

Harbour Lights donates to Rockland Breakwater

At a recent annual fund raiser for the American Lighthouse Foundation, Kim Andrews, COO of Harbour Lights, surprised the audience with an oversized check in the amount of $32,500, which was presented to Tim Harrison of the American Lighthouse Foundation. The money represented Harbour Light's pledge to donate $5.00 for the sale of each of its replicas of Maine's Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse to the restoration of the lighthouse. On behalf of Harbour Lights, Tim Harrison presented the $32,500 check to the Friends of Rockland Breakwater at the 100th birthday party for the lighthouse two days later. Many of the volunteers, who have been working so long and so hard to restore this historic lighthouse, had tears in their eyes when they saw the check. Look for the entire story with photographs in the August issue of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. The Friends of Rockland Breakwater is a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation.

"For the lights" auction on Ebay to save lighthouses

Over the coming months The American Lighthouse Foundation will be auctioning off hundreds if not thousands of items on E-Bay, the Internet auction site, to help raise money for lighthouse restoration and preservation projects.

You can help by bidding on items or donating items to be sold on the site. To view what The American Lighthouse Foundation is auctioning off, simply go to the Ebay home page. At the top of the page go into SEARCH then go BY SELLER and type in the space next to BY SINGLE SELLER the word "forthelights" and everything that The American Lighthouse Foundation currently has listed for auction will appear.

Volunteers will be adding new items to the site about every two weeks and will also handle the payments and shipping out of the items. So, if you want to help, simply bid on some of the items you'd like to buy and add to your collection. Remember, new items will be added every couple of weeks, so keep checking back.

If you have quality collectibles or other items that you'd like to donate for the ongoing auction (and it doesn't even have to be lighthouse related - they will sell anything for lighthouses) send your donated items to - American Lighthouse Foundation Auction, P. O. Box 889, 2178 Post Rd, Wells, ME 04090.

The Lighthouses of Japan

Rare Book available to first four callers

Lighthouse Depot has four copies left of only twelve that were sent to the United States of the book Lighthouse of Japan. There were only 500 copies of this book made. The book was made by a Japanese businessman as a memorial to his wife, and all were given away in Japan to friends and family members, except twelve copies that were sent to us in the United States. We have four left. This is an exquisite book, and very few lighthouse books are ever made of this quality. The book is hard cover, and is in its own book box with a beautiful photograph on it. The book is oversized at 13 1/2" wide by 10" high, with 254 pages of some of the most outstanding color lighthouse photography we have ever seen. The book's cover box does have a small dent in the corner from shipping from Japan, but this does not detract from the quality of this rare book that will be a true family keepsake. Remember there are only 12 known copies in the United States and we have four of them left to the first four orders placed as item 91265 for $350 by phone at 1-800-758-1444 or on our web site at www.LighthouseDepot.comwww.LighthouseDepot.com
