This basket pendant is a miniature of the original Nantucket Lightship baskets that were made on lightships from the 1840's to the 1880's when the trade was moved to Nantucket Island. The miniature coin is for good luck. Legend has it that if a two pence is thrown overboard when passing Nantucket's lighthouse as you leave the harbor, you would be granted a safe voyage and return. They are finished with hand etched scrimshaw as were the original nantucket Lightship baskets. Legend of the penny story is included with each basket. Choose your favorite lighthouse in either 14k gold or 24k gold plated version. (24k gold plated chain included).
