This lighthouse was constructed when South Jutland and Alsen Island were part of Germany. The dwelling from the original lighthouse still stands and is privately owned. The station is operated by a six-man team. A Royal Danish Navy coastal lookout service is manned by the lighthouse staff, and the station also has an automated weather observation station transmitting reports to DMI (Danish Meteorological Institute) around the clock.

Directions:
The island can be reached by car via the southernmost Danish town of Sønderborg or by ferry from the island of Fyn. The lighthouse can be visited from May through September, daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
