Notes:
This tower was built when the Coast Guard occupied the site; it is now on the Avery Point Campus of the University of Connecticut. The Avery Point Lighthouse Society, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, worked for the restoration of the tower. Restoration began in the fall of 2003 and was completed in 2006. The light was relit as an aid to navigation on October 15, 2006.

Characteristic and Range: Flashing green every 4 seconds; range 3.5 nautical miles.

Description of Tower: Octagonal brown concrete tower with wooden lantern.

Listed on the Lighthouse Digest Doomsday List of endangered lighthouses.

Optics: Solar powered LED.

Current Use: Active aid to navigation.

Directions:
Leave I-95 at exit 87, CT 349, the Clarence B. Sharp Highway. Turn right at the second traffic light onto Rainville Avenue. Turn left at the next light onto Benham Road. Continue straight approximately 1.7 miles to the Avery Point Campus of the University of Connecticut. Take the second enttrance onto the campus. Continue straight to the waterfront. Parking is available immediately in front of the Project Oceanology building.The Avery Point tower is a short walk downhill from there. Project Oceanolgy offers periodic tours of New London Ledge Lighthouse; call (860) 364-8472 for details. The Fishers Island Ferry and Block Island Ferry out of New London offer distant views of Avery Point Light.
