This may well be the most unique and unusual lighthouse book to ever be published. In Chicago they had "Cows on Parade", in New York they had "Horses on Parade" and now in Maine we have "Lighthouses on Parade"! See great photographs of all the 10-foot tall lighthouses, artistically designed and transformed into works of art by Maine artists. Filled with information about the companies sponsoring each lighthouse and why they got involved in the project. Get to know the artists and witness some of the designing process involved in the Lighthouses on Parade project. Learn of the charities that will benefit from the auction of the lighthouses. You will want to know where these exciting works of art will be located throughout the summer of 2003 for your viewing pleasure. It's all here! Included in this book you will enjoy historical information about the lighthouses in Maine with many unusual and rare photographs. The historical section and forward was written by our very own Tim Harrison. Autographed copies are available upon your request at the time of ordering. # 31874

The author, Bob MacAlindin, traces the development of these “prisons” from the early almost unseaworthy wooden hulks to the modern well-founded, all steel, high-tech light vessels, and includes stories from the crews point of view. This is the story of light vessels that were first used in the River Thames in 1731 and their use soon spread around the British coastline. That British influence soon spread to the four corners of the world. This book covers a previously unwritten area and is a must have for any lighthouse home library. # 91479

While on duty in the cramped confines of Muckle Flugga Lighthouse, Ian Cassells took to walking circuits round the lighthouse station for exercise (twelve laps to the mile). With this background, when the Northern Lighthouse Board celebrated its Bicentenary in 1986, he made the suggestion that in commemoration of the anniversary he carry out a sponsored walk to raise money for the R.N.L.I., calling at all the then manned lighthouses on the Scottish mainland. It took the author 58 days in which he covered at least 1100 miles on foot. A light walk! # 91771
