Connie Small, Maine’s patriarch of lighthouses, was on hand for the ceremony. Connie, 99, is author of the best-selling book, A Lighthouse Keepers Wife and she spent 28 years living at lighthouses. She stated that the lens from Boon Island represents much more than an historic artifact, it represents the lives of men and women who dedicated themselves to others, many times at great hardship and risk so that people unknown to the keepers might reach their destination in safety. Wayne Manson, director of the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum, presented Connie a bouquet of flowers.
