The second Thimble Shoals Lighthouse was a near duplicate of the first one. The second structure used the original lens from the first tower which divers had recovered from the water. However, like its predecessor, it too was destroyed by a fire, when the schooner Malcom Baxter Jr, struck the lighthouse on Dec. 27, 1909. The jolt of the crash knocked over a stove, causing fire to rapidly spread, destroying the lighthouse. Photograph courtesy The Mariners Museum of Newport News, VA.
