A local fisherman said he witnessed the lightning bolt hit the tower. Neighbors said they felt the force of the bolt of lightning when it hit. Looking out their windows they soon realized by the sight of the flames that the lightning had hit the old lighthouse. Photograph courtesy of the News Journal.
